Camouflage for Hunters, Hunting Camouflage via Veil Camo

Tags: , , , |

Camouflage is a much-debated topic in the hunting community.  I recently listed to a great podcast that I have to share. "Joseph Skinner is the founder of Veil Camo.  Chances are, you’ve seen Joe’s work as First Lite’s proprietary camouflage pattern —Fusion.  Joe worked with First Lite to develop the pattern, Fusion, to be an incredibly effective hunting pattern for a variety of terrains and environments.  In this episode, we talk with Joe about what makes camouflage effective.  We discuss

Merino Wool..

It is my belief that Merino wool is the ultimate base layer, not only for hunters, but for outdoorsman all of types. I base this on merino’s ability to wick moisture, dry quickly, insulate when wet, and fight odors. While merino wool may cost more than its polypropylene counterparts, and require more care when laundering, its long term benefits outweigh the cost. Polypropylene has its place, but for pursuits of a wilder nature, when base layers are worn many days in

An Alaskan Brown Bear Hunt – Jerry 2014

Tags: , , , , , , |

My hunting buddy Jerry is a big contributor to Remote Pursuits. He helps me with gear reviews, puts up with my ideas, and is always ready for an adventure. Through Jerry I met Berke; and Jerry and Berke have been hunting together long before I ever met Jerry. Berke has been able to avoid the sickness we call "Sheep Fever" and Jerry and Berke seem to have moose hunting down to a science.  I highlighted their success this fall as

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

As far as I know only two other teams have put in similar efforts as to what you are about to view. I first read this on KUIU's forum. Justin Starck and his brother did a great job presenting some visuals and letting you the viewer decide what to go with. The links to those test are no longer valid. As such this is one of the few places I am aware of with this many photos. Since then I

Hunting Roosevelt Elk in Alaska, Part 3 – The Gear

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

This is Part 3 in the “Elk Hunt Alaska” series. Part 1 provided an overview of Elk in Alaska, Part 2 captured our adventure, and in this post I discuss the gear used on this hunt and how it performed. We established a base camp and hunted from the base camp. This was not a backpack hunt and Seahawk Air’s Beaver is basically an F250 on wings, so weight is not really an issue. Elk Range in Alaska

Hunting Roosevelt Elk in Alaska, Part 2

Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

This Part 2 in a series on Elk Hunting in Alaska. Part 1 provided info on the history of elk in Alaska. Part 2 is The Adventure... I’ve been a member of Rokslide since its early days and have developed a great network of like-minded individuals and was recently added to the Pro Staff. It’s a great place to bat around ideas, learn, and contribute. Through this experience I met a fellow Rokslider, Billy. We communicated off and on over
